Wow … what just happened?

So … the Saints had been awarded a behind (Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera), with Rowan Marshall appearing to have caught the ball behind the behind line.

Play resumed but was halted for a score review, with Marhsall being judged to have marked the ball before the line.

He was awarded the mark and kicked the goal, putting the Saints out to a 21-point lead.

Concern for Ryan

Midway through the second term, Liam Ryan has been helped from the field with a suspected glute injury.

There was some concern for Ryan, who lay on the ground for some time while the Saints’ medical staff attended to his condition.

We’ll keep you posted.

Eagles waste chance

Elliot Yeo had the ideal opportunity to kick the Eagles’ opening goal of the match, early in the second term.

He marked in front of goal but instead of taking his time with the set-shot, he quickly played on and missed his target.

The Eagles came away with a point.

Saints have a second

Sam Flanders kicks the Saints’ second goal of the quarter.

Mitch Owens had chipped a pass into the attacking 50 to find Cooper Sharman on the lead.

The angle wasn’t easy for Sharman, so he passed to an unmarked Flanders, who nailed the set-shot.

The Saints up by 14.

Ryan kicks first goal of match

At last! We have a goal!

Following Jake Waterman’s behind, the Saints swiftly moved into attack and sent the ball forward.

The Eagles’ Tylar Young was in position to mark the ball in the defensive 50, but the pill slipped through his fingers.

Mitch Owens did the crumbing and handballed to Liam Ryan, who kicked the opening goal of the match.

Saints lead by a kick.

Eagles on the board … with a behind

The Eagles’ Jake Waterman had a shot on goal inside the attacking 50.

But it shifted off target and went through for a minor score.

Eagles defence holding firm

Almost midway through the first term, and neither side has managed a goal.

The Saints have threatened but the Eagles’ defence has calmly diffused any chance of a major.

A tight affair so far.

An early feeling out period

No side has exerted dominance yet in the first quarter, with the only score coming via a Mitch Owens behind for the Saints.

We have a modest crowd in attendance under the roof at Docklands.

Why is marvel roof closed?

It’s not weather-related, as there isn’t a cloud in the sky around the Melbourne CBD area.
