Residents at Dolphin Sands have been told to take action now as a bushfire burning near Swansea moves toward the coastal community.

The Tasmania Fire Service on Sunday issued a Watch and Act warning for Dolphin Sands, including Cambria Drive, after a fire broke out at McNeills Road, Swansea.

Authorities said the fire was travelling east towards Dolphin Sands and was expected to impact the area by 12.40pm.

The fire service warned the blaze was expected to be difficult to control, with embers, smoke and ash likely to threaten homes and residents before the main fire front arrived.

“Take action now to protect yourself, your family, and your home,” the warning said.

Residents have been urged to check their bushfire plans immediately and decide early whether they will leave, ensuring they have a clear path to a safer place.

“If you are not prepared for a bushfire, be ready to leave for a safer place,” authorities said. “If you stay, your home may not be defendable.”

People have also been warned to travel only if it is safe to do so.

Meanwhile, a separate Bushfire Advice remains in place for McNeills Road, Swansea.

The advice warning states there is currently no immediate threat, but the fire is travelling towards Swansea and conditions are expected to remain changeable.

Residents in the area have been urged to continue monitoring conditions and review their bushfire survival plans.

The Tasmania Fire Service said well-prepared homes were expected to be defendable under the current conditions, but anyone not properly prepared should consider relocating to a safer place if the situation worsens.

“If your plan is to leave, the best option is to stay with family or friends,” the advice said.

Fire crews remain at the scene battling the blaze.
