Hurkacz halts Berrettini, reaches Cagliari Challenger SFs

Hubert Hurkacz defeated Matteo Berrettini in a clash between former Top 10 players Friday at the Sardegna Open, an ATP Challenger 175 event in Cagliari.
The sixth seed Hurkacz rallied past the home favourite 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals of the clay-court tournament. Seeking to find his best form again after undergoing arthroscopic right knee surgery last July, the Pole arrived in Cagliari with an 8-10 season record across all levels. The 29-year-old’s match against Berrettini marked a rematch of their 2021 Wimbledon semi-final meeting.

Hurkacz will next face fourth seed Roman Andres Burruchaga, who saved match points for the second consecutive match. All four quarter-final matches in Cagliari went three sets, including Burruchaga’s escape from American Marcos Giron 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(1).
The bottom half of the draw will feature an all-Italian semi-final. Matteo Arnaldi overcame third seed Nuno Borges 6-3, 6-7(2), 7-6(3) while Gianluca Cadenasso defeated Jesper de Jong 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 to advance to the last four.
Three of the top four seeds remain in Aix-en-Provence
Chilean Alejandro Tabilo continued his quest for a second trophy in Aix-en-Provence, where he won the title in 2024. The second seed raced past Peru’s Ignacio Buse 6-4, 6-0 to set a semi-final meeting against American Ethan Quinn. The winner of last month’s Phoenix Challenger, Quinn survived Wu Yibing 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
Third seed Zizou Bergs fought off Australian Rinky Hijikata 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 and Pol Martin Tiffon continued his breakthrough tournament, ousting Kimmer Coppejans 7-6(7), 6-4 to reach the semis. Martin Tiffon upset former No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov in the opening round before ousting top seed Alex Michelsen.
