A popular restaurant in Perth’s southern suburbs will close its doors next month after serving the community for more than 20 years.
Dux Cafe & Restaurant, located on South Terrace in Como, has been praised as a go-to breakfast and lunch spot in the area.
Offering bottomless brunches as well as modern takes on international lunchtime staples, Dux describes themselves as “a place where food, wine and friendship come together”.
After more than two decades serving the Como and South Perth community, the owners of Dux shared a devastating closure announcement in an online statement on Sunday.
“With a heavy heart, we are sorry to announce that our business has come to an end,” they wrote in the announcement.
The owners said the decision to close the joint was financial, spurring from a sudden increase in the building’s rent.
“Unfortunately, as a small community-based business, we simply cannot afford the severely increased rent of 25% from the new landlord,” the owners shared.
“It is heartbreaking that Dux ends with us after more than two decades of serving the community.”
The update is a sad change for the acclaimed restaurant, who won a Gold Plate award for ‘Best Breakfast in Perth metro area’ from the Catering Institute of Australia in 2023.

The South Terrace hotspot will close their kitchen to the public on Sunday following the Mother’s Day rush.
They will continue to operate solely as a cafe for several weeks afterwards, announcing they will continue selling coffee to the community until their doors officially shut at the end of June.
Members of the Como and South Perth communities were quick to voice their heartbreak over the sudden announcement.
“Such sad news for the community,” one local lamented, while another patron praised the establishment for “many enjoyable meals served over the past two decades”.
Dux’s announcement follows a string of restaurant closures across Perth in recent months.
Popular burger joint Upperhand Burgers officially closed to the Swanbourne community on Sunday, leaving burger-loving foodies devastated.
Fremantle’s Young George bar and restaurant shut its doors in April after a “difficult few years”, with Wellington St restaurant Fleur also closing shop after six years.
