Casey intends to show maturity as York boxer takes on first six rounder

BRAD Casey intends to show maturity when he fights in his first six rounder later this month.

York fighter Casey will be on the undercard of Dave Allen versus Filip Hrgovic on Saturday, May 16, for what will be his first six rounder fight since turning professional in 2025.

Fighting at Doncaster’s Eco-Power Stadium, it’s a fresh opportunity for 21-year-old to improve his game after an unbeaten start so far, boasting a record of 4-0.

Casey will therefore be taking his time in the ring and showing a more ‘relaxed’ side to his game, telling The Press: “It’s my first six rounder, so a big point is showing my maturity.

“I don’t want to rush anything, I want to break them down slowly and I think I’ll show that in my next fight.

“Because it’s my first six rounder, I’ve got to stay relaxed in there and not rush into anything, because I’ve got six rounds in there.

“I can slowly dissect him and break him down.

“Training has been class, I’ve had some big weeks of sparring.

“Training is going class, it’s just how we want it.

“Each and every fight, I feel like I’m getting more and more relaxed going into it, I’m more relaxed and I’m just enjoying everything.

“I think I’m improving every fight.”

Casey will be hoping to build upon a winning start to 2026, last fighting in January at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena.

He last fought against Lee Roberts, and was victorious through a points decision in a performance that Casey felt he learned plenty from.

He was pleased by his opening two rounds, but felt he got ‘too giddy’ when a strike on Roberts left his opponent wobbled.

“A solid performance against a good opponent, who had come to win,” Casey reflected.

“I got a lot of experience gained from it, I was happy with it.

“There were a lot of lessons that I could take away from the fight, there were moments where I exerted a lot of energy instead of staying relaxed like I did in the first two rounds.

“In the third round I caught him, but I got a bit too giddy, and it’s just about learning to stay composed.

“That all comes with maturity as I build on every fight.”

Casey has so far beaten Goran Kozul, Antonio Borovina, Dylan Courtney and Roberts in his professional boxing career, fighting in venues all over the country.

The chance to fight on the undercard of Allen, who he works closely with at Legion’s Boxing Gym alongside Head Coach Ashley Martin, Casey hopes it can be a chance to get the people of York in his corner.

He added: “It’s another massive platform with Dave Allen headlining against Hrgovic, it’ll be some fight that.

“Hopefully it’ll be some turnout as well, it should sell a lot of tickets because it’s a big card, and I’m proud to be on it.

“We want everyone in York backing each other, and it’s a good thing for us, because since Henry Wharton there hasn’t been many fighters come out of York.

“So to be on these type of shows and these type of cards, we’re hoping to build a fanbase and get York behind us.”

Head Coach Martin wants Casey to keep building on his experiences, in what will be the young York boxer’s first stadium show.

He said: “It’s good to have him on a local show, there will be a lot of people from the city coming and watching him.

“It’ll be his first stadium show and will be massive.

“Right now we’re just chasing the experiences where we can, and this is going to be a mega experience in itself to be on this show.”
