Latrell Mitchell has broken his media silence after 18 months to promote teammate Campbell Graham’s 150th NRL milestone game. This comes as the South Sydney Rabbitohs star beat Adam Doueihi and James Tedesco to a top player-voted NRL award.
Mitchell has not spoken to the media for close to 18 months after opting to focus on his footy. And this has paid off for the the Rabbitohs star who is undoubtedly in the best form of his career.

The permanent shift to centre in 2026 has seen Mitchell rip teams apart. Mitchell leads the NRL in points, linebreak assists and has scored 11 tries in eight games. And in April he was recognised by his teammates and rivals in the Rugby League Players Association (RLPA) awards.
Mitchell won the RLPA Player of the Month and it also marked the first time he has taken out the award in his career. Mitchell finished ahead of James Tedesco and Adam Doueihi in the voting with the duo also finding form.
Mitchell scored seven tries in April, which included four against the Dragons. No Rabbitohs player has won the award since Cody Walker back in 2023. And after winning the award, Mitchell made the surprise move to break his media silence to promote his teammate Graham’s 150th game in the NRL.
Latrell Mitchell breaks media ban ahead of Origin
There was speculation to whether Mitchell would break his media ban ahead of the State of Origin series this year with the Rabbitohs leader one of the biggest names in the game. Mitchell has been on a ‘self-imposed’ media ban since 2024, refusing to speak to reporters or at post-match press conferences.
The South Sydney superstar landed himself in hot water with the NRL after an expletive-filled interview to Triple M radio after a game in early 2024. Since then he’s shied away from all official media commitments.

But in a surprise move on Tuesday, Mitchell fronted the media with a smile. Instead of making it about himself, Mitchell used the time to promote Graham’s milestone coming up this weekend against the Sharks. The Rabbitohs winger has battled injuries throughout his career, but has remained fit this season and is in the mix for an Origin debut.
“It is a special occasion this week. I only want to talk on special occasions and ‘Stretchie’ is that this week,” Mitchell said of Graham. “I want to focus on the team and bring it back to them.”
The Rabbitohs have seemingly been happy for Mitchell to avoid the media because they believe it allows him to focus on his footy and play his best. And this has certainly been the case in 2026. Fans will be hoping Mitchell provides even more interviews heading into the Origin schedule with the Rabbitohs star a huge drawcard for the sport.
