Former Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland was rushed to hospital in an ambulance over the weekend after he fractured his leg in the premier division cup final.
The 39-year-old was representing the Wythenshawe FC Vets when a sickening studs up challenge from a South Liverpool player forced Ireland to the ground.
A snapping noise could be heard as Ireland fell to the turf, with nearby players immediately grimacing and placing their head in their hands.

The match came to a halt with less than 30 minutes of football played as medics attended to Ireland. An ambulance was later called to transport him off the field.

Players from both sides were seen gathered around nearby Ireland as ambulance officers assisted him into their vehicle, where he was taken to Warrington Hospital.
Match officials declared the game had been abandoned after the ambulance arrived.

Ireland’s wife Jess admitted that the moment was “really upsetting and shocking” to watch, but she was grateful for the care that he received after the incident.
“We are so grateful not only to the Wythenshawe FC fans but also to South Liverpool Vets and everyone at Warrington Rylands – you were all outstanding,” she said in a statement released by the club on Instagram.
“A special thank you to the paramedics and ambulance team from Warrington Hospital for their swift and professional care.

The Wythenshawe FC Vets added: “We’re all behind you, Stephen. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery.”
Ireland’s team has been gaining attraction in recent weeks on social media due to the sensational line-up of the over-35s Sunday League squad.
Ireland has teamed up with his former Manchester City teammate Joleon Lescott, with the pair recording 330 caps between them for the club. Ex-Liverpool striker Emile Heskey and former Manchester United gun Antonio Valencia are also on the team.
Other members of the squad have a background in the English championship.
