Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster made their Met Gala debut on Monday evening, while his ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, who is known to be a huge fan of attending the event, was nowhere to be seen.
Jackman and Foster have left many fans fuming over the decision to attend the glitzy bash together, with some calling it the “final blow” to his ex-wife, Furness on social media.
The couple looked smitten as they posed for pictures, with Foster sporting a huge diamond ring on her finger that’s sparked further speculation that a wedding between the pair could be imminent.
Jackman and Furness would regularly attend the event together over the years, with their last joint appearance being back in 2023 when they were all smiles on the red carpet.
A source close to the new couple has revealed that Furness was “warned” that the pair would be making an appearance together and showing off what’s rumoured to be a giant engagement ring on Foster’s finger.
“Deb had been warned Hugh would be appearing with Sutton but it still felt like a knife to the heart seeing them there,” an insider told New Idea.
“This was her and Hugh’s ‘big night out’ for the year and they were there side-by-side, just like Sutton is today, just four years ago.
“Last year when it looked like Hugh wanted to take Sutton, Deb indicated she might be going but simply couldn’t face it in the end,” the insider shared.
“Part of her hoped he might have gone solo again, so it adds an extra layer of hurt that Hugh’s so willing to pave over their historic nights out with new memories. “Deb is doing well moving on from what was a deeply hurtful betrayal, but seeing Sutton smiling on the arm of Hugh hurts.”
Fans were quick to jump in on social media with their opinions, with many labelling Jackman and Foster’s move “disrespectful”.
“Thumbs down! It’s forever team Debbie over here!” one person remarked, while a second commented: “No longer a fan!”
“I lost big respect for him,” someone else chimed in.
However, not everyone felt the same way, with other users insisting that it’s time people “get over” Jackman’s split from Furness and “move on” like he has.
Jackman and Foster – who co-starred in the Broadway production The Music Man from 2021 to 2023 – were first romantically linked in late 2024 before confirming their relationship in January 2025 when they were photographed holding hands on a dinner date in Santa Monica.
Reports then emerged the following January claiming that Jackman had proposed and the pair were well underway planning their wedding.
Reports of their nuptials first emerged in January when an insider told New Idea that the couple were dead set on walking down the aisle.
“[Hugh’s] told his team to keep a big window open for him and Sutton to tie the knot and have a honeymoon tour of Europe, where they can see his mum,” an insider claimed at the time.
The source added that the couple were planning a small, “intimate” ceremony in New York during spring or summer for their “theatre pals”. There’s no indication as to whether any of Jackman’s close family would be in attendance.
“Hugh and Sutton are full of excitement about all the next steps that they can finally take,” another source said.
“They spent so long feeling like they couldn’t live out loud, but now that they are finally a public couple, things are moving very quickly,” they added.
