Luke Metcalf’s management are reportedly seeking a meeting with the New Zealand Warriors to gain clarity on the star half’s future and role in the team.

Metcalf, who has battled knee and hamstring injuries, was relegated to the interchange bench last week with coach Andrew Webster rewarding resurgent playmaker Tanah Boyd.

According to Code Sports, Metcalf, who signed a three-year extension at the club, is keen to understand the Warriors’ long-term plan for him.

Metcalf’s camp say his desire is to play halfback, not five-eighth.

The Warriors’ only two losses this season have been when Metcalf started alongside Boyd in the halves.

Boyd, meanwhile, has helped propel the Warriors to second on the ladder and is set to be rewarded with a new contract.

“He’s (coach Andrew Webster) rewarding performance. In some respects he (Metcalf) was their marquee man. He was leading the Dally M when he got injured and everyone expected him to slot back in this year when he returned but Tanah Boyd and Chanel Harris-Tavita have done a wonderful job,” foxsports.com.au’s Paul Crawley said on NRL 360.

“Andrew Webster has hit the nail on the head and said we’re going to stick with what works.”

Code Sports’ David Riccio declared Boyd has to continue to string strong performances together if he is going to be given the keys to the Warriors’ offence long-term.

“With respect, Tanah has done nothing. He’s achieved wins but not over an entire season,” Riccio said.

NRL360 host Braith Anasta, however, cautioned Metcalf was still working his way back to form after overcoming an ACL injury last season.

“They didn’t work when he came back Metcalf so that’s an issue but I thought he was a little underdone. He’s a great player and I don’t think it did him or the Warriors any favours,” Anasta said.

“I don’t mind them bringing him off the bench at the moment.”
