Adelaide player Luke Nankervis has been named as an emergency for the club’s clash with Richmond on Sunday, despite spending a night in hospital during the week.
The 22-year-old spent Tuesday night in hospital dealing with lock jaw, a condition where jaw muscles spasm, preventing the mouth from opening or closing properly.
While it’s unclear what caused the issue, Crows teammate (and Nankervis’ housemate) Josh Rachele posted the ordeal to TikTok.

“Pov: your friend gets locked jaw at 12am #emergency #hospital #helpme,” Rachele captioned the post.
The clip shows Nankervis with his mouth agape, clearly finding the situation somewhat humorous.
The midfielder commented on the TikTok post saying “Bloody heck”. Adelaide AFLW player Grace Egan enjoyed the post herself commenting “I’m dying”.
Interestingly, the youngster was included in Adelaide’s extended squad for the Richmond game this weekend, though he was not among the inclusions on Friday night.
However, he has also been left out of the Crows’ SANFL side for Saturday’s match with Sturt.
This may be injury related or he simply may be travelling to Victoria with the AFL side as a carry-over emergency.
All three of Adelaide’s emergencies for the Richmond game have been left out of that SANFL side, including Finnbar Maley and Billy Dowling.
Captain Jordan Dawson has returned to the side along with defender Nick Murray, replacing Jordon Butts and injured star Taylor Walker.
Nankervis has played three games for the Crows this season, last featuring in round six against St Kilda.
He has played 34 career games for the club since being selected in the 2021 pre-season draft.
