53′ Newcastle line break as Dragons winger is down
Dragons winger Mathew Feagai is down, deep in his own half.
So when the Dragons kick to Newcastle fullback Kalyn Ponga, they are defending with 12 players.
Ponga notices the winger is down, and that is where he runs.
Ponga passes to Dom Young, who makes a big line break. Young’s pass was knocked down, stopping a certain Knights try.
Feagai has been helped from the field.
It looks like a leg injury, which he may have sustained before being tackled in the previous set.

Second half of Dragons vs Knights begins
The Newcastle Knights will have the first use of the footy in the second half.
They hold a 32-point lead, and they have a nice set, until a forward pass is called on tackle four.
It was a forward pass. That is one of the worst I have seen from dummy-half. It was Sandon Smith who threw the footy forward.
The Dragons will have their first set of the half, beginning on the halfway.

Dragons fans wondering if the club has bigger issues than coaching

Sacking Shane Flanagan was not going to fix their issues, but it felt like the first of many steps.
The Dragons appear to have problems from top to bottom.
Sadly, when you read the team lists each week, you have a sense the Dragons’ roster is just not strong enough to compete against everyone else.

Dragons booed off the field at half-time
You can hear the boos from some of the Dragons fans as half-time was called.
Their club is winless, and coming off a bye, and is 32-0 down at the break against Newcastle.

37′ Dom Young has a double for Newcastle
It is a second try for Newcastle winger Dom Young.
It started deep in Newcastle’s half. when a nice pop-pass from Kalyn Ponga leads to Greg Marzhew running down the left wing.
The Knights then stay patient for the next few plays, marching from halfway down to the goal-line.
An offload from the centre of the field leads to the Dragons shifting to the right, and Dom Young scores untouched.

Knights fullback Kalyn Ponga has broken through the attempted tackles of Kade Reed and Clint Gutherson.
Ponga runs 30 metres, then passes inside to Dylan Lucas who runs and scores under the posts.

28′ Knock-on denies the Dragons
The Dragons have a nice set, and got into an attacking position with a set-restart.
A nice kick is put up, and it was an aerial battle between the fullback, Kalyn Ponga (Knights) and Clint Gutherson (Dragons).
The ball is knocked forward by Gutherson into Ponga.
The ball lands with the Dragons, who appeal for a try.
But it is correctly ruled a scrum for Newcastle.

25′ Greg Marzhew has a double for the Knights
The Newcastle Knights have a third try.
Greg Marzhew has barged over from dummy-half for his double.
Newcastle had a penalty just 10 metres out, more on that in a moment, and the Knights went to work.
Left centre Bradman Best came very close to scoring, brought down just one metre from the line.
Marzhew then picked up the ball and just ran over the nearby defenders.
It should have been a play-the-ball for the Knights, after a Knights’ knock-on was overturned by the Bunker and ruled to be a strip from the Dragons.
But fullback Clint Gutherson was penalised for dissent.
It didn’t change much, but it is showing the frustration the Dragons are feeling.

17′ TRY: Dom Young scores for the Knights
The Knights are attacking the left edge of the Dragons’ defence, without mercy.
Kalyn Ponga attracts two defenders and is able to get the offload to Dane Gagai.
The centre, after being hit with a great shot just two minutes earlier, shows no issue as he sprints away.
Gagai passes winger Dom Young, who is unmarked, and Young streaks away for the try.
Ponga kicks the goal.

15′ Dragons winger Mathew Feagai with a bone-rattler
St George Illawarra winger Mathew Feagai is leading from the front.
The Newcastle Knights are attacking his side of the field — Dom Young has already made two line breaks.
Feagai is clearly sick of this, and the Knights have come back his way.
The Knights have the overlap, but Feagai rushes to centre Dane Gagai and whacks him in the ribs with a beauty.
It forced a knock-on, and was just the stop the Dragons needed.

6′ Knights starting to get on top, but miss a half-chance
It has been a back-and-forth start to this contest.
It is a battle in the centre of the field.
But Newcastle are beginning to establish a territorial advantage.
Knights right winger Dom Young makes a small line break, but his pass inside hits the deck and is recovered by the Dragons at midfield.
It feels like a warning shot from the Knights.
