Manly veteran Siosiua Taukeiaho was stretchered off the field in “concerning scenes” and could miss up to a year after suffering a fractured tibia and fibula during his side’s 32-4 win over reigning premiers Brisbane.

Taukeiaho was at his bustling best in the middle of the field on Saturday night, running for more than 120 metres in his stint off the bench.

The 34-year-old then crossed for a rare try early in the second half, running onto a flat pass from Nathan Brown and forcing his way over the line.

However, in the process of planting the ball down, Taukeiaho got his legs tangled up with a couple of Broncos defenders and immediately screamed out in agony.

“He’s hurt himself in doing so … he holds the ball and gets it down, momentum has dragged him into the in-goal area,” Greg Alexander said on Fox League.

Replays showed a very awkward landing for Taukeiaho and it appeared as though the knee of Cory Paix accidentally came down on his lower-leg.

Word quickly filtered through that it was a suspected fractured tibia for Taukeiaho as he was attended to by Manly’s medical staff with a green whistle.

The front-rower was then stretchered from the field as fans and head coach Kieran Foran looked on with clear concern for Taukeiaho’s wellbeing.

“That’s ugly … these are concerning scenes, the green whistle is coming out and this is not good, this is a dour moment,” lead commentator Dan Ginnane said.

“He’s been a wonderful player. You don’t want to draw too harsh a conclusion but at his age and his contract, this is obviously a serious injury.

“If that is the end, what a way to go out – scoring a try, putting your body on the line.”

The two-time Roosters premiership winner was then taken to a nearby hospital and will undergo surgery, placing him on the shelf indefinitely.

“It’s not good, I’ve just spoken to the doc,” Foran told Fox League post-game.

“It’s a pretty bad break in his leg, he will be going in for surgery hopefully overnight.”

Taukeiaho’s four-pointer helped extend the lead for the Sea Eagles, who pushed further ahead when Tolu Koula raced away for a long-range try with 20 minutes remaining.

Reuben Garrick put the icing on the cake for the home side in the dying stages as the Sea Eagles cement themselves in the NRL’s top-eight.
