Gawn goals for Demons

It took 11 minutes but we now have a goal in the second quarter!

Max Gawn only had to put boot to ball from a metre out to kick the Demons’ latest major.

Jacob van Rooyen marked and played on to Jack Steele, who unselfishly handed off to Gawn to put the icing on the cake.

Reid getting attention on bench

The Eagles have already lost Harry Edwards for the match, and now there is concern over Harley Reid.

Reid left the field for medical attention on a lower-limb issue.

Van Rooyen did well to get separation from Reuben Ginbey and mark strongly.

Demons on target with team goal

Great work from the Demons, who forced a turnover inside their defensive 50 and almost went the length of the field to set Jacob van Rooyen for his first goal of the match.

They stretched the Eagles’ defence to the extent that Kozzy Pickett was found on his own inside the attacking 50.

Pickett went the selfless route and kicked to van Rooyen, who had a regulation set-shot.

Demons reply through Langford

Harvey Langford gets the Dees on the board.

Max Heath sent the ball forward into the attacking 50.

Langford may not have been the intended target, but he took an excellent contested mark.

The set-shot wasn’t from the easiest angle, but Langford’s effort had the accuracy.

The honour went to Harley Reid, giving the Eagles an early seven-point lead.

Eventful start

Inside the first minute, Kysaiah Pickett appeared to make contact with Jake Waterman’s head inside the Eagles’ attacking 50.

Waterman was groggy after the incident and was awarded a free kick.

His set-shot went wide and through for a behind.

This is only the third time in 15 years that these two sides have played each other at Docklands.

Last year the Demons made a mess of the Eagles with an 83-point win here, and they have won six of the last seven meetings.

The last time West Coast beat Melbourne in Melbourne was back in 2014.

All this to say, there’s a reason why the Dees are favourites for today’s match, but take a look at some of the much-closer-than-expected games this weekend, anything could happen.
