A Mackay recycling operator has entered liquidation after attempting to reinvent itself following the loss of a key council contract.

Incredable Ltd, which previously ran the Paget tip shop, was placed into liquidation in March, according to a notice lodged with ASIC, with SV Partners appointed as liquidator.

The collapse came months after the longstanding operator rebranded as “Incredable Recycling”, shifting its focus to hard-to-recycle waste streams.

In a social media post, the company described the move as “exciting news” and a “fresh chapter”, promoting a new direction centred on items such as mattresses, fire extinguishers and gas bottles.

Its online activity slowed in the weeks that followed before the business ultimately entered liquidation.

Contract switch

The company had operated the Paget resource recovery facility for years, including under a three-year contract awarded by Mackay Regional Council in 2020.

Public records show Incredable held a contract worth about $563,000 in the 2024–25 financial year.

That contract was later awarded to Outlook Australia following a competitive procurement process, with the national not-for-profit — which also operates as a social enterprise — taking over from August 1, 2025.

The service was rolled into a broader agreement with Outlook valued at more than $2 million.

Mayor Greg Williamson said council prioritised local businesses where possible, but decisions were based on value for money and broader community outcomes.

“Council is committed to supporting the growth of our region’s economy by prioritising local businesses and industry when procuring goods and services,” he said.

“At the same time, council remains focused on ensuring decisions deliver the best value for money for ratepayers and the broader community.”

Some community members questioned the change, raising concerns about transparency and the shift away from a local operator.

Responding on Facebook, the council said the contract period had ended.

Community impact

Since 2012, Incredable had operated as a not-for-profit social enterprise supporting disadvantaged jobseekers.

It previously employed about 18 people at the tip shop, providing jobs and training for those who may otherwise struggle to find work.

Tammie Lewis, who worked at the site, said a job there was “more than just a pay cheque … a chance at a brighter future”, describing it as “the most incredible job she has ever had”.

The business also supported local initiatives, including donating bikes and supplying recycled materials for community projects.

Council data shows the tip shop processed and sold hundreds of tonnes of salvaged goods each year, diverting waste from landfill.

Final chapter

In a farewell post marking its departure from the Paget site, the organisation wrote: “One final look. One heartfelt thank you,” describing the facility as home for more than a decade.

“A space that changed lives. A community that made it happen. A mission that keeps going,” Incredable posted to Instagram.

As it shifted into its new venture, it told followers their “support means everything”.

The liquidator said directors had decided to close the business and were working through an orderly wind-up.

“Incredable Ltd has operated as a not-for-profit social enterprise since 2012, delivering meaningful employment pathways and supporting disadvantaged jobseekers across the Mackay community,” the liquidator said.
