Nicole Kidman has quickly backtracked after coming under fire for an “upsetting” detail in her recent Mother’s Day social media post.

The Aussie actress took to Instagram on Sunday to share a heartfelt snap of herself alongside her daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, whom she shares with ex-husband Keith Urban.

“My two girls are everything to me,” she originally captioned the post, accompanied by a red heart.

However, while the picture received a lot of support from some fans, others were quick to call out the 58-year-old for not mentioning her two adopted kids Bella, 32, and Connor, 30, whom she shares with ex-husband Tom Cruise.

“Even if the other two kids chose not to be in my life, I’d still acknowledge them. She can do what she wants, as she chose to. I’d be different but no one knows the actual story,” one person wrote in the comments section.

A second person chimed in: “Wow that’s so sad – I 1778568311 get why she didn’t invite you to her wedding in London. Adopting kids isn’t a fashion move it’s a lifetime commitment – so upsetting.”

“What about the other 2??? C’mon, Nicole… Full stop,” a third added.

Another person simply put: “& Isabella & Connor???”

“What about your other 2, just because you dont have a relationship with them doesn’t mean you disregard their existence,” a fifth pointed out.

Some fans of the Babygirl actress came to her defence, pointing out her children’s Scientology background as a potential reason for her decision not to mention them in the post.

“Her adopted kids are Scientologist and they don’t accept her,” one person wrote, with another adding: “It’s possible they’ve asked her not to post about them and she has respected their wishes.”

The number of comments criticising Kidman’s omission of her first two children in the post seemingly had an effect on the mum, for she changed the caption in the wake of the backlash.

“To my beautiful girls, the greatest joy is being your mother. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers in the world,” it now reads.

Kidman and Cruise, who were married for 11 years, adopted Bella in 1992 and Connor in 1995.

Rumours have swirled regarding Kidman’s estrangement from her two eldest kids, with many believing it is due to their ties to Scientology and her lack thereof. However, it has never been confirmed.

Bella is an artist based in London and Connor works as a DJ and runs a barbecue business in Clearwater, Florida, near his father and the Church of Scientology’s headquarters.

Both have kept relatively low-profiles and stayed away from the limelight.
