THE Triple Eight-built, Autobarn-backed Commodore ZB that took Craig Lowndes and Steve Richards to victory at Bathurst in the former’s last full-time Supercars season in 2018 has been returned to its Great Race-winning livery.
The car, owned by long-time racer Scott Taylor, had remained in its one-off Newcastle gold and black livery for the last seven-plus years since he acquired it at the end of its single season of racing.
The unique livery was a surprise for Lowndes and was unveiled during race week in the pit lane in Newcastle 2018.
V8 Sleuth had learnt that in recent weeks the #888 ZB Commodore was being returned to its Bathurst-winning livery at Triple Eight Race Engineering in Banyo, near Brisbane Airport.

Photos taken inside Taylor’s car collection confirm the Bathurst livery having now been applied to the Great Race-winning car.
The chassis – 888A-049 – raced for a single year and took Lowndes to his seventh Bathurst 1000 win and gave Richards his fifth success in the annual Mount Panorama classic.
It also scored a race win earlier in the 2018 season at Symmons Plains in Tasmania.
The Autobarn Commodore has been stored in Taylor’s facility on the Gold Coast among a mouth-watering mixture of collectable cars, trucks, boats and motorbikes.
His collection also includes the Red Bull Commodore VF that Lowndes and Richards drove to victory at Bathurst in 2015.
The car as it previously appeared in the 2018 Newcastle livery.
Every Triple Eight V8 Supercar from 2003 to 2023 – including chassis 049 – is featured in a collector’s edition, hardcover book available here at a special sale price in the V8 Sleuth Superstore.
Taylor, who this year is racing in Porsche Carrera Cup, is also understood to have recently taken delivery of another race-winning Supercar that he secured in a deal with Tickford Racing in 2025.
The Monster Energy Mustang was raced during 2024 and 2025 by Cam Waters, including to a clean sweep of last year’s opening round at Sydney Motorsport Park.
It most recently was used during Grand Prix week filming at Calder Park, where Oscar Piastri drove Waters’ current Tickford Mustang in a modified livery.
Waters is set to debut a brand-new chassis at next weekend’s Tyrepower Tasmania Super 440.
