Sinking a tin or two while watching the biggest sports stars in person is a tale as old as the amber ale itself, but fans headed to the PGA Championship this weekend will have to dig deep.

Today’s Golfer reporter Ben Parsons posted a photo of grog prices to X, and to absolutely nobody’s surprise, they’re steep.

A 16oz (470mL) Michelob Ultra or Bud Light will set fans back $20.69, with a ‘Premium Beer’ or Bud Light seltzer of the same size both $22.07.

A 25oz (740mL) Michelob – basically a long neck – is $24.14. For those fans who’d rather not get on the turps, a 350mL zero is $16.55.

There’s also a 350mL High Noon cocktail of vodka seltzer and vodka tea for $22.76.

Despite the steep prices, to somewhat ease the hit to the hip-pocket, all food and non-alcoholic beverages are free on-site.

But fans who attended the event last year pointed out that came with its own drawbacks. Fans who might otherwise have packed their own lunch decided to enjoy the freebies on offer, which led to long queues and wait times of well over an hour.

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy has found the solution to the painful problem that forced him off the course just three holes into a practice round on Wednesday (AEST).

McIlroy suffered a painful blister under the nail of his right little toe.

“I feel soft having to walk in because of a little toe,” McIlroy said.

On Thursday, he padded it with some tape, and then wore a shoe a half-size bigger and wider.

He made it through a nine-hole practice round without issue on Thursday, and doesn’t see it being a problem during the tournament.

“Pleasantly surprised,” he said of how good it felt. “Walking downhill when the foot slides to the front of the shoe maybe gives me a bit of bother. But it’s fine. All good.”

McIlroy will play the first two rounds with Jordan Spieth, who is trying to become the next after McIlroy to capture a career grand slam, and Spanish LIV star and former world No.1 Jon Rahm.
