The DJI Pocket 4P.

DJI showed off the long-rumored dual-lens version of its popular Pocket camera today at an event held in Cannes, where the iconic film festival is also taking place. In attendance were several award-winning videographers, film industry insiders, and select media such as myself.
It’s worth noting this is not the official launch of the product, but rather a teaser held for film industry personnel, because the DJI Pocket 4P aims to be a small cinematic camera. Full specs are still under embargo until later, but the Pocket 4P brings back the 1-inch sensor seen in the DJI Pocket 4, with a secondary camera that provides a longer focal length. The Pocket 4P also supports 17 stops of dynamic range, which is an industry-leading number not just among small cameras, but any camera, period.
The new camera also brings version 2 of DJI’s LOG video format, named DJI LOG 2, which allows a wider range of adjustments in post-production when it comes to lighting and tones.

As mentioned in my review of the single-lens DJI Pocket 4, the DJI Pocket is the camera I see most at tech events, because its small size makes it a superb content creation machine. With the Pocket 4P’s extra lens and superior dynamic range, it will further open up content creation capabilities.
With the second zoom lens, this camera becomes, in my opinion, much more than just a vlog camera (where you tend to film your own face), and instead becomes a proper camera where the lenses are facing forward.

The pocket camera battle is heating up, as DJI’s rival Insta360 is also set to introduce a similar camera. But DJI, as the pioneer in this category, should have an advantage when it comes to brand recognition and accessory ecosystem. The official launch of the Pocket 4P has not been announced, but it should be very soon — perhaps before May ends.
