The Brothers Davis take the stage this Saturday in the state of Virginia.
Former lightweight world titlist Keyshawn “the Businessman” Davis (14-0, 10 KOs) leads the trio of brothers as he meets Nahir Albright (17-2-1, 7 KOs) in a rematch set at super lightweight at the Scopes Arena in Norfolk, Va. on Saturday May 16. DAZN will stream the Top Rank card.
Davis, the former WBO lightweight titlist, is moving up in weight. The 2022 Olympic silver medalist is considered the best of the three Davis brothers and so far, his only blemish was against Albright back in 2023 when a majority decision win was overturned and ruled a No Contest.
“I had a win over him and they decided to take it back. I’m going to knock him out in 2026,” said Davis, 27, about the first encounter with Albright in Rosenberg, Texas in 2023. “It’s not personal, but I’m going to knock him out.”
Albright, 30, fights out of Philadelphia and is the only fighter so far that could put sand in the race engine of Davis.
“I didn’t get a chance to enjoy the night that I worked so hard for. So, I’m looking forward to getting that back in the ring,” said Albright about the first encounter with Davis. “I showed the world a glimpse of my talent, and they are going to keep seeing it.”
When Albright fought Frank Martin to a draw this past February in Las Vegas, he shoved Martin aside from his place in line to fight Davis. He also defeated Keyshawn’s older brother Kelvin last year.
“I thought he was going to beat Frank. I went back and watched the fight and I thought he beat him. I thought he did a good job,” said Davis about Albright. “His people kept calling my people, and we picked up his phone call. That’s why we’re here.”
The rematch is set and both have something to prove.
“I’m going to get my hand raised Saturday night, and the whole world is going to see it,” Albright said.
Davis differs.
“I’ve stopped my last three opponents that I’ve fought and this is going to be another stop,” said Davis.
Aside from brothers Kelvin and Keon Davis competing on the same fight card, former welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. returns to the boxing ring after suffering a stunning defeat last November to Devin Haney.
Norman (28-1, 22 KOs) meets Canada’s Josh Wagner (19-2, 10 KOs) in a welterweight match set for 10 rounds.
“Of course I’m motivated by that. But I’m focused on May 16,” said Norman about his only loss.
But it’s all about Keyshawn Davis. He has all the tools a world champion needs. The last great champion from Norfolk, was none other than the late Pernell “Sweetpea” Whitaker, a four-division world champion.
Can Davis follow Whitaker’s trail? He already has one world title at lightweight.
MMA Female Legends in Inglewood
Two female MMA champions whose participation led to the success of women’s boxing are facing each other as Rhonda Rousey meets Gina Carano at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif. Their match, promoted by Most Valuable Promotions, will be streamed by Netflix on Saturday May 16.
Carano, 44, was one of the first female MMA fighters to draw interest from fans and proved a woman could be a big draw. She was a major attraction and seen on Showtime.
Next, Rousey was signed by UFC and proved she could also be a legitimate box-office draw, headlining a premium fight card at the Honda Center and filling more than 15,000 seats. That pay-per-view card sold more than 400,000 views.
Their abilities to attract fan interest shattered the myth that female combat was not popular enough to showcase on television or in a major arena.
Since Rousey and Carano, the advent of female boxing continued that momentum and the world saw Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano set records for attendance and viewership in their three clashes in the boxing ring.
This Saturday, audiences around the world finally get to see the match that was first talked about more than 12 years ago.
“However this goes, if she takes me out and puts me out on the canvas, I think she is going to be the first person to help me up,” said Rousey about a kill or be killed approach. “We don’t need to hate each other to give each other our best.”
Carano smiled throughout the press conference.
“I’m just trying to relish every moment and not rush through it,” Carano said. “It’s been so incredible to be back in the mixed martial arts community.”
Additional bouts are also planned, including the return of popular Nate Diaz versus Mike Perry, Francis Ngannou versus Philipe Lins, and two other bouts.
