Fremantle in firm control at quarter time at a very, very wet MCG!
The Dockers rammed home three goals inside the first three minutes, and we looked like we were going to be in for a really ugly afternoon, before the Bombers struck back.
Still, there appears to be a very obvious gulf in class and experience between these two sides, so it wouldn’t surprise me if the margin grows.
The good news for Essendon is they’ve looked like scoring whenever they’ve managed to get the ball forward.
Freo leads the inside 50 count 20-7, but the Dons have generated four scores from those seven inside 50s.
Essendon is also edging the clearance count 8-7 after being smashed in the opening minutes, so there are small wins out there.
Caleb Serong leads all players with 10 disposals and also has two clearances. He is made for these conditions, so it’s no surprise to see him getting a stack of the footy.
Zach Merrett is Essendon’s leading ball-winner with seven touches, while Sam Durham has two clearanes.
In more good news for Essendon, Peter Wright was able to return to the field after coming off early on with a knee concern.
