Earlier in the day, Bree Illing (2/29), Rosemary Mair (2/41), Melie Kerr (1/40), Jess Kerr (1/31) and Nensi Patel (1/23) ensured that England were kept under six runs an over.

In response, Lauren Bell was right on mark, trapping three Kiwi batters, including Suzie Bates (12) who featuring in her final ODI, before Maddy Green (37) provided the White Ferns with some momentum.

Speaking after the win, skipper Melie Kerr reflected on its importance.

“A win today to level the series. Any time you win against a quality England side is pleasing. (In a tough spot) at 40 for 3 on a tricky wicket, (we) absorbed that pressure, brilliant to watch. Points for the (Cricket) World Cup are important for us, hopefully to qualify.”

The ODI series is to be followed with a three-game T20I seriers which will provide further practice ground for the team ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
