Despite coming up short in winning this year’s NBA Most Valuable Player award, Nikola Jokic still earned himself a key accomplishment.

The Denver Nuggets big man earned a second-place finish in this year’s MVP race, as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has earned the honors for the second consecutive year.

According to ESPN Insights, Jokic officially becomes the third player in NBA history to be in the Top 2 MVP voting in six consecutive seasons.

He ties Larry Bird (1981-86) and Bill Russell (1958-63) in this feat.

If there’s anything significant from this milestone, it simply shows the sustained excellence and wonder of the Serbian superstar in playing the game.

This past regular season, he delivered with a staggering average of 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 10.7 assists, joining Russell Westbrook as the only players ever to drop triple-double numbers in consecutive seasons.

As it is, Jokic’s historic season saw an early and disappointing end in the NBA Playoffs, being eliminated in six games of their opening-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
