Karl Stefanovic’s ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn has publicly claimed that he owes her money from two years ago.
Thorburn, who is currently battling an aggressive form of cancer, posted a video to Instagram sharing a TEDx Talk about ‘cancer ghosting’.
Among messages of support from commenters, she received a remark slamming her ex-husband, whom she was married to for 21 years.
“I hope Karl Stefanovic and his brothers, brother’s wives, and his mother get bad karma for not being there for you when you needed them the most,” the person wrote.
“Especially Karl, as you are the mother of his children. They could have been your voice raising awareness of breast cancer, but instead they are doing nothing.
“Shame on you Karl Stefanovic and your family.”
Thorburn replied to the comment claiming Stefanovic still owes her money.
“I’m not worried about him,” she wrote.
“It would be nice if he paid the maintenance he owes me still from two years ago, or the loan he took from me to cover our daughter’s overseas university fees, but I won’t hold my breath.
“I have bigger things to worry about than a man/father like that one.”
A spokesman for Stefanovic told The Daily Telegraph his “financial arrangements with his adult children are between them and no one else”.
“He wishes his ex wife all the very best in her treatment and recovery.”
Thorburn and Stefanovic split in 2016 and finalised their divorce the following year.
Stefanovic was the primary income earner throughout their 21-year marriage, while Thorburn paused her journalism career to raise three children, reported Marino Law.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported at the time of the divorce that Thorburn received $6 million in cash and assets in the divorce, while Stefanovic left the marriage with around $500,000.
The settlement reportedly also included child support and ongoing payments.
The claims come during a strong career period for Stefanovic.
The veteran Today host’s podcast, The Karl Stefanovic Show, regularly reaches the top six on the Spotify podcast charts.
He has also been signed as ARN’s newest radio host of a three-hour news, sports and entertainment show with co-host Eddie McGuire.
Alongside these ventures, he remains a host on Today show, where he earns $2.8 to $3 million per year according to Inside News.
