PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men’s basketball has signed transfer guard Rasheed Jones on Saturday. Jones joins the Scarlet Knights after spending the last two seasons at Coastal Carolina.
A 6-foot-6, 190-pound guard, Jones arrives at Rutgers with significant collegiate experience after starting 61 of 64 games for the Chanticleers. The Marion, Indiana, native averaged 14.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.0 steals per game during the 2025-26 season while starting all 32 contests. He logged 36.3 minutes per game and shot 39.8 percent from the field, 36.7 percent from three-point range, and 80.7 percent from the free-throw line.
“Rasheed is our type of guard,” Pikiell said. “He has size, can defend, shoot from three and the foul line, and plays with energy and grit. We’re excited to add a player with his experience and versatility to our program.”

As a redshirt sophomore in 2024-25, Jones started 29 of 32 games, averaging 11.6 points per game in 31.0 minutes per contest. He ranked second on the team in scoring, three-pointers made (66), and assists (66).
Jones scored in double figures 20 times during the season and surpassed the 20-point mark on four occasions, including a season-high 21 points against Winthrop (Dec. 7, 2024). He connected on three or more three-pointers in 12 games, highlighted by a season-best five made threes at NC State (Nov. 13, 2024) and at Georgia State (Jan. 11, 2025). He also recorded 12 games with five or more rebounds, including a season-high nine boards against Warner (Dec. 29, 2024), while dishing out a season-best seven assists against South Alabama (Feb. 5, 2025).
“I bring whatever my team needs to win,” Jones said. “My strengths are shooting, playmaking, and defending — and I’m going to bring energy every single night. Anything my team needs me to do to win, that’s what I’m going to do.”
Prior to Coastal Carolina, Jones played the 2023-24 season at Northwest Florida State College, appearing in 34 games and averaging 11.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game while shooting 45.3 percent from the field, 39.7 percent from three-point range, and 75.3 percent from the free throw line.
“It was really the coaching staff, first and foremost,” Jones said. “Their vision to win aligned with my vision for myself and for the team. They wanted me to come help them reach their goals — and that’s what I’m going to do.”
Jones began his collegiate career at Western Carolina, redshirting during the 2022-23 season.
“I heard the fans bring energy every single night,” Jones said. “I’m just ready to be a part of it — I can feel it already, to be honest.”
A product of Marion High School, Jones scored more than 1,000 career points in three varsity seasons. As a senior, he averaged 15.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game, earning two All-North Central Conference selections, recognition as an Indiana All-State Top 30 selection, and status as an Indiana All-Star candidate.
“Rutgers Nation, you’re getting a great player on and off the court — and an even better person,” Jones said. “I’m here to help turn this program around and get back on the winning side. I’m going to give 100 percent every single time I step on that floor. We’re going to turn this thing around.”
