A swathe of stars will be hoping to back up from State of Origin Game I, but as usual many will no doubt drop out later in the week.

Round 13 begins with the battle of the beaches on Friday night as the Sharks host the high-flying Sea Eagles who are chasing their eighth win from nine matches under Kieran Foran.

Saturday sees three matches headlined by the Storm-Roosters clash in Melbourne, while the weekend will close out with a top-of-the-table clash between the Panthers and Warriors on Sunday night.

The Dolphins, Titans and Rabbitohs have a bye.

15. Mavrik Geyer
17. Royce Hunt
18. Ethan Roberts
19. Jeral Skelton
21. Bunty Afoa

Tigers team news:

The Tigers desperately need to turn things around after going cold in recent weeks. The bad news is star centre Taylan May (shoulder) is out, possibly for the season, while Jock Madden is struggling with a hamstring and no certainty to play. If he’s out Latu Fainu will likely come in at No.7.

In better news Api Koroisau is back from suspension, while Heamasi Makasini (foot) could also return this week.

Adam Doueihi (shoulder) says he’s still a few weeks away while outside back Patrick Herbert (suspension) is unavailable until Round 15 with Sunia Turuva potentially covering in the centres for the fifth time this season.

Appearing on Fox league on Sunday afternoon Api Koroisau also suggested star fullback Jahream Bula (shoulder) might be back—that would be a fortnight ahead of schedule so it’s something definitely to watch this week.

Canterbury predicted team:

18. Josh Curran*
19. Enari Tuala

Bulldogs team news:

Jacob Kiraz made a welcome return from injury in Round 12 at fullback for injured Connor Tracey (hamstring) and could stay there after a strong showing.

Captain Stephen Crichton should return from NSW Blues duty leaving Enari Tuala competing with Marcelo Montoya for a single wing spot. Jethro Rinakama had a try double against the Storm and should hold his place on the other wing.

Forwards Sam Hughes (neck) and Josh Curran (ribs) are close to returns which is just as well given Jacob Preston broke his forearm against the Storm and is expected to be out for up to eight weeks.

A late change saw Kurt Mann start at hooker against the Storm and there’s every chance he’ll do so again with Bailey Hayward to come off the bench.

19. Manaia Waitere

Storm team news:

The Storm gave up yet another half time lead against the Bulldogs and could be desperate to have Cameron Munster,  Harry Grant and Trent Loiero back on deck in Round 13 after Origin I.

Given Melbourne is now teetering three wins outside the top eight any temptation to rest their stars may be outweighed by the need for NRL premiership points.

One player who definitely won’t be there is Shawn Blore who has been ruled out after a Cat 1 HIA against the Bulldogs. One player who could be a surprise inclusion is Xavier Coates who is getting close to a return from Achilles surgery in February.

Roosters predicted team:

1. James Tedesco*

4. Robert Toia

Mark Nawaqanitawase (ankle) is said to be eyeing a return in Round 15.

Superstar prop Payne Haas (knee) is a chance to return while Jack Gosiewski (concussion), Blake Mozer (jaw) and Benjamin Te Kura could all be available.

Back rower Jordan Riki has had surgery to relieve a plantar fasciitis issue in his foot and will miss multiple weeks.

16. Josh Kerr
17. Blake Lawrie
18. Tyrell Sloan
19. Lyhkan King-Togia

Dragons team news:

Jaydn Su’A injured his calf ahead of Round 12 and is likely to miss a month or more of action.

Young centre Hayden Buchanan suffered a shoulder dislocation against the Wahs and is awaiting scan results to determine a recovery timeline.

Given their issues in the centres the Dragons will be desperately hoping Moses Suli (back) is available to fill the void but there are no guarantees.
