The Australia Institute has done such a good job with its campaign for a 25% export tax on Australian gas that fellow advocate Senator David Pocock was given a solid platform on ABC TV’s Insiders program on Sunday to make the case, even though it’s one tax increase that wasn’t included in the federal budget.
Pocock sounded a little wobbly on whether his real motivation was to prevent all new gas projects and to shut the industry down in the long term, but not once during the discussion did he mention the two corners of the resources sector that are far more deserving of higher taxes by Australian governments: gold and iron ore.
