Teyana Taylor proves, time and time again, that she’s the coolest mom out there. Last night, the artist, actor, and mother of two graced the 2026 American Music Awards red carpet. And rather than calling a babysitter to watch her young daughters for the evening, she took both the girls as her dates.

Going bold for the award ceremony, where she was nominated in the Best Female R&B Artist category, Taylor showed up in a vibrant purple Balenciaga gown. Pulled from Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Fall 2026 collection, the piece balanced sculptural structure with a light and breezy softness—with a rounded, strapless neckline and fitted bodice covered with delicate layers of chiffon. At the waistline, a long skirt floated down to the carpet, where it effortlessly trailed behind the nominee. A high leg slit gave the ethereal look a daring edge, and a long matching shawl finished things off.

Next to her, her daughters, Iman “Junie” Tayla Shumpert Jr. and little Rue Rose Shumpert, brought their own style to the carpet. The 10-year-old rocked a denim-on-denim look with a triple belt accent and red boots, while her younger sister went for a little pink dress and matching boots. She accessorized with white sunglasses and a white cardigan.

The two are no novices at red-carpet photos, having accompanied their mother to Hollywood events several times before. And here, they posed like little professionals.

Later, Taylor went backstage for a quick change, and reappeared for a trippy, space-inspired performance of “All of Your Heart.” Queen Latifah introduced the star for her set (which included an interruption via screen from Missy Elliot), referring to her as “someone with main-character energy.” The beloved actor reminded the crowd that Taylor was “fresh off of her first Oscar nomination and Golden Globe win for One Battle After Another,” and that she “earned her first-ever AMA nomination” this year. “Beyond the awards, she is a mother, she is a style icon, she is a force in every lane,” Latifah said of Taylor.
