Colorado State men’s basketball’s 2026-27 roster is complete.
Late last week, the Rams got a commitment from University High School senior River Sawyer as a walk-on to complete the team’s 14-player squad for next season.
Sawyer announced his commitment on social media May 23.
The 6-foot-4 guard from Greeley was a Class 4A first-team all-state selection this past season after averaging 18.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals in his senior year with the Bulldogs. He shot 48% from the field, 37% from behind the arc and 84% from the free throw line.
He led University to the Class 4A title game where the Bulldogs lost to top seed Kent Denver, 95-81, on March 14. He scored 26 points and had eight rebounds in the championship contest.
In the Bulldogs’ five-game state tournament run, he averaged 20.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, including the 26 in the finale and 21 in University’s semifinal victory over Peak to Peak.
He is the second Colorado player joining the Rams’ 2026-27 roster, along with Regis Jesuit’s Eric Fiedler, the CHSAA 6A player of the year.
Sawyer and Fielder join other incoming freshmen Pops Dunson and Jaden Ghoreishi and transfers Amondo Miller Jr., a graduate from Lubbock Christian, and Justin Menard, a junior from Marist, as newcomers to the team next year.
They will join returning players Carey Booth, Jase Butler, Josh Pascarelli, JoJo McIver, Rashaan Mbemba, Charlie Dortch, Kyle Jorgensen and Docker Tedeschi.
Sawyer and Dortch are the team’s two walk-ons.
CSU went 21-13 last season in Ali Farokhmanesh’s first season as the team’s head coach. The Rams went 11-9 and lost in the second round of the league tournament in their last season in the Mountain West Conference.
They were selected to play in the NIT and lost in the first round to Saint Joseph’s on May 18 at Moby Arena.
