Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy said it fired warning shots at four vessels near the Strait of Hormuz, according to a post on an IRGC-affiliated Telegram account.

The vessels were reportedly trying to pass through the waterway “without prior coordination or authorisation,” the post added.

The IRGC said the “exchange of fire” was the source of explosions, according to air defence reports.

Separately, Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency reported that the country’s armed forces launched missiles from the south toward “designated targets.” Those targets have not yet been identified, the agency said.

It was not immediately clear whether the IRGC post and the Fars report were about the same incident.
