News of Irish singer Sinéad O’Connor’s tragic death shocked the world two years ago, when she died at the age of 56.

And now, a biopic on the Nothing Compares 2 U hitmaker’s early life and career is in the making, Variety reported. 

A production company that worked on the documentary Nothing Compares is reportedly behind the new project.

The singer, who hailed from Dublin, Ireland, died in July 2023, in London. 

News of her death shocked the world and stars including Russell Crowe and Toni Collette paid tribute.

The Irish Independent reported last year that her official cause of death was from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, and she had a respiratory tract infection, which was listed on her death certificate.

The singer rose to fame in the late ’80s and was known for songs including In This Heart, Feel So Different and Drink Before the War. 

She had huge international success with her career.

When news of her death broke, Australian actress Toni Collette wrote in a touching tribute: “I adored this woman from afar as a teenager. I will always admire her.”

“I was lucky enough to hang out with her a few times in my twenties. On one occasion we all sang in the hills of Wicklow in Eire,” she continued.

“I sang a Jane Siberry song and Sinead then asked/encouraged me to sing one of my own.

“Can you imagine the terror? The intimidation? The thrill?! She was so talented, so generous, humble, resilient, courageous and true.

“What a voice. What a force. My heart breaks. Rest in real peace Sinead.”
