Shocking footage has shown the moments a man dramatically jumped on to the front of a moving van after a crash on the Bolte Bridge.

The wild scenes are believed to have been sparked by a collision in peak-hour traffic.

A police spokesman said they were called to an incident just before 5pm, after a collision on the bridge in South Wharf escalated into a physical altercation.

Footage shows the Nissan driver yelling at the Ford van’s driver while scrambling to hold on to the front of the vehicle.

“Officers were told that a Ford van and a Nissan Navara collided on the Bolte Bridge just before 5pm,” the spokesman said.

“It is believed both male occupants exited their vehicles and were involved in a physical altercation.

“The driver of the Ford got back into his vehicle and whilst driving away, the driver of the Nissan began holding on to the van.

“Investigators were told that driver of the Nissan came off the Ford prior to the Burnley Tunnel and the Ford continued driving.”

The Nissan driver was taken to hospital after sustaining non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the fall.

VicTraffic confirmed that two right lanes on the West Gate Freeway just prior to the Burnley Tunnel entrance, were closed on Friday evening due to the abandoned vehicle.
