FOR tomorrow morning’s Cracker Barrel 400 at Nashville Superspeedway, Shane van Gisbergen is set to line up from position 10 after qualifying was rained out for the second straight week.
Last time out at Charlotte, SVG lined up from third and held station in the top-10 for much of the race before settling for 11th at the chequered flag.
To determine the grid, NASCAR utilises a formula that takes into account race finishing position and championship standings – the Kiwi is currently placed 14th in points.
Denny Hamlin was awarded the pole position.
NASCAR is endeavouring to schedule an all-in practice session later today.
Between the Cup, O’Reilly and Truck Series, this is the sixth straight qualifying session rained out, equaling the all-time record.
While temperatures are expected to top out in the high 20s, the early evening start time is set to provide drivers with additional grip.
The NASCAR circus rolls into Nashville only once per season, with van Gisbergen having two previous starts at the venue – last year in Cup and in 2024 in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series.
In Cup, he earned a 25th-place finish, making it to the chequered flag on the lead lap.
His second-tier start at the venue also yielded a lead-lap finish in 15th, a solid improvement on his 28th starting position.
The race is due to start tomorrow at 9am.
