Super Radio Network Newcastle’s general manager Guy Ashford has been suspended, following an incident at the Australian Audio Awards in Sydney on Thursday night. Mumbrella presented the awards, alongside RadioInfo.
As 2HD presenter Cheralyn Darcey was leaving the stage, after accepting her trophy for best newcomer on air in a medium-sized market, Ashford rushed in from the side and embraced her, grabbing her in what some of those in the audience felt was inappropriately.
Ashford had been in the wings waiting to present an award in a later category.

2HD is one of two Newcastle-based stations owned by SRN, and managed by Ashford.
Super Radio Network CEO Graham Mott dubbed the actions “totally inappropriate, and told RadioInfo that Ashford “has been suspended until further notice.”
Mott said he has also apologised to Darcey and her husband, who was also present at the awards, and will conduct a fuller investigation at the Newcastle station.
Cheralyn Darcey presents The Nightline on SRN’s 2HD from 8pm to midnight.
