Sutton Foster is struggling with the harsh online criticism surrounding her relationship with Hugh Jackman following his divorce from Deborra-Lee Furness, according to an insider.
Jackman and Foster went public with their romance in January last year, however the timeline of their relationship has long been the subject of speculation, with the couple starring opposite each other in The Music Man on Broadway in 2023, when they were both still married to other people.
Now, it seems Foster is reaching breaking point, with a well-placed source telling Woman’s Day that the trolls and rumours online are getting “the better of her”.
“She struggles with being branded a ‘homewrecker’, so does Hugh, but this is a whole new world for Sutton,” says the insider, who adds that the 51-year-old has never been “hated” like this.
While Foster has strong feelings for Jackman, the source says that she was “totally naive” about what would come with having a public relationship with the Wolverine star.
“She worries she could be stuck with this reputation forever, regardless of whether or not she becomes Mrs Jackman,” they added.
It comes after the Broadway star set tongues wagging with her admission that she struggles with “loneliness”.
The actress recently joined a Women’s Health Lab panel called ‘The Science of Staying Strong: Longevity, Movement & Resilience’ to talk about how she combats stress in her life.
“I’ve been a leading lady for a long time… but often I feel really alone,” she admitted.
“I reached out to a lot of my contemporaries last year, and a lot of the women on Broadway, and we all are usually on our own. Everyone shared the commonality of loneliness,” she added according to Women’s Health.
“Women of power can actually support each other, and we don’t have to be pitted against each other.
“There’s room for more than just one of us.”
Jackman and Furness announced their separation in a joint statement in 2023, marking the end of their 27-year marriage.
Just one year after the finalisation of their divorce in 2025, Jackman went public with his new partner Foster.
Infidelity rumours began to swirl when Furness released a statement to Daily Mail last year, which read: “My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal.”
