VICTORIAN Motorsports Park is undergoing a major reconstruction as the facility aims to attract Group 1 drag racing events to the state.
The venue, located 120km north of the Melbourne CBD, is in the process of undergoing a major facelift.
Currently, a new, larger drift pad is being installed with room for alternate track layout options and future expansion.
The facility’s burnout pad is being re-worked and raised, while the drag strip is undergoing concrete repairs and associated grinding to smooth transitions.
Elsewhere, lighting and power supply have been addressed in the paddock, car parking has been updated, a mobile phone tower has been installed on an adjacent property, entry road upgrades have been made, and the timing box has been refurbished.
Originally opened as Heathcote Park Raceway in 1977, the facility has been a mainstay of the Victorian drag racing scene since.
Earlier this year, the facility was acquired by a consortium of families led by Wally Szabolics, Daniel Szabolics and John Ricca.
While Calder Park has been revived for a range of drag-and-roll racing uses, Victoria as a whole lacks a top-flight drag racing facility compared with the Perth Motorplex, The Bend, Sydney Dragway, and Willowbank Raceway.
