Canva co-founder Cameron Adams says Canva is not competing with large language models like ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude, despite those AI tools also able to create visualisations and graphics.
“We’re by no means competing with the large language models, so we partner with them to utilise their particular technology within the product that we’re offering,” Adams said.

Asked whether Claude Design, a new visualisation tool by Anthropic, was a threat to Canva, Adams said: “Generating and prompting something is just one part of design, and you can get trapped into thinking that design is just the visual that you end up with – in which case a prompt seems like the answer to your design workflow problems.”
“[Design] is an entire process and tool chain that isn’t met by just one little prompt box, and that’s what Canva specialises in,” he said.
