Kimi Antonelli can equal Lewis Hamilton’s personal Mercedes record of five straight grand prix wins in Monaco.
The Italian has won the Chinese, Japanese, Miami, and Canadian Grands Prix to open up a 43-point lead over team-mate George Russell in the standings, after the Briton dropped out with an engine failure whilst leading.
The last Italian to win in Monaco was Jarno Trulli in 2004, with Antonelli on the cusp of equalling Hamilton’s tally of five consecutive wins, which he achieved in both 2014 and 2020, when he won his second and seventh world titles, respectively.
However, it is not the all-time Mercedes record for consecutive wins, with Nico Rosberg claiming seven straight between the 2015 Mexican and 2016 Russian Grands Prix.
