Today
is more than the launch of new initiatives; it marks a significant
milestone in the continuing evolution of Fiji Rugby and Fiji Rugby’s commitment to building a stronger, more sustainable future for our
players, our communities, and our nation.
This was shared by FRU Chairman, John Sanday, during the launch of the Life After Rugby Support in Suva.
Sanday, a former Flying Fijian loose forward, says for
generations, rugby has been woven into the fabric of Fiji, and it has
brought pride and recognition to our country, united our people
across villages and communities, inspired young Fijians to dream big,
and provided opportunities for many of our finest athletes to
represent Fiji on the world stage.
He says the
true strength of any rugby organization is measured not only by its
achievements in competition, but by how it cares for its people
throughout their lives.
The Chairman says they are also proudly launching the Fiji
Rakavi Foundation — a
commitment to ensuring that our players, both men and women, continue
to receive support long after their playing careers have ended.
He says through the Foundation, they aim to provide access to education
pathways, medical assistance, rehabilitation services, transition
programmes, and welfare support for former players who have given so
much in service to Fiji Rugby.
Sanday says they also celebrate the formal partnership between the Fiji Rugby Union and the Australia Pacific Management and Training, and this partnership will create meaningful education and training
opportunities that equip our players and rugby communities with
skills for life beyond rugby through structured learning programmes,
professional development pathways, and recognized certifications.
He says in
addition, they launch the Fiji
Rugby Management System,
a modern platform that will strengthen governance, improve player
registration and welfare management, enhance programme delivery, and
support informed decision-making through reliable data and
accountability.
Sanday says while
these initiatives are diverse in purpose, they are united by one
common principle putting
people first.
