Woolworths has confirmed it is ditching its single-handle shopping baskets following customer complaints.
Instead, the supermarket giant is rolling out a new, improved twin-handle design made from recycled materials.
In 2023, several customers complained online that the single-handle design made it harder to carry groceries in.
A Yahoo Australia poll of more than 4,500 people found a staggering 76 per cent wanted the old designs back.

A Woolworths spokesperson told Yahoo Lifestyle the decision was made after listening to shopper feedback.
“We are constantly looking at ways to provide a better experience in-store for our customers,” the spokesperson said on Friday.
“In response to customer feedback, we are currently rolling out a new shopping basket with an enhanced ergonomic, twin-handle design.
Customers in selected locations across Australia, including Goolwa in South Australia and Runaway Bay in Queensland, have already spotted the new baskets in store.

“The new baskets have been designed with customer comfort and sustainability in mind — with each of the new baskets made from recycled materials, including at least 18 milk bottles.
“It is expected these new baskets will be made available in all Woolworths stores by September.”

The single-handle baskets were introduced across stores in 2023, yet the design was slammed by shoppers.
At the time, one customer from Parramatta in Sydney’s west complained that she was struggling to balance her groceries inside it because of its single handle.
“It’s extremely difficult to hold, particularly as a shorter person. The weight distribution is completely off once the basket becomes more than half full,” the woman named Loz told Yahoo News.
