An Aussie radio host has come up with a genius idea to solve the biggest mystery in TV: Who is hosting the Logies?
There’s been a lot of speculation about who will front the August 16 event, after Sam Pang ruled himself out of hosting for the fourth year in a row.
“I’ve had three great years, and it was wonderful, but I’m just not going to do it this year,” he told the SMH last month.
When asked who he thinks should take over as host, Pang suggested Anne Edmonds and Kitty Flanagan, or The Cheap Seats’ Tim McDonald and Melanie Bracewell.
Insiders have told news.com.au that Channel 7, which has the broadcast rights, would most likely prefer to have one of its network identities host the event.
That could mean that Dr Chris Brown, Sonia Kruger or even Celebrity Intervention hosts Mick Molloy and Glenn Robbins could be in the running.
But on Friday morning, Triple M Gold Coast breakfast personality Liam Flanagan suggested that Logies organisers should keep the host’s identity a secret until the cameras start rolling, and he has the perfect way to reveal it.
“Here’s how you launch it. It’s a prerecorded video … and standing there in a row, you’ve got all your potential hosting candidates,” Flanagan said. “So you’ve got Mick Molloy, you’ve got Shaun Micallef, you’ve got Karl Stefanovic … all standing there.”
The Triple M host said the Osher Gunsberg and Sam Pang should then emerge for a piss-take version of The Bachelor.
“You film a Bachelor rose ceremony, and it’s Sam Pang holding the rose,” he said. “So Osher does one of his amazing, serious pieces to camera … then you get Sam to have a bit of fun with all the possible candidates in Sam Pang style.”
Flanagan suggested Pang could brutally eliminate the Aussie celebs one by one until only a few potential hosts are left standing.
“You cut to black, and then a voiceover says, ‘ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage, your host of the 2026 TV Week Logie Awards,’ and whoever they’ve chosen comes out on stage,” he said.
We love the idea, and reached out Osher Gunsberg to find out if he’d be happy to participate in the sketch.
“I’ll only do it if in the opening of the gag, where I’m standing next to Sam Pang holding his rose, he looks to me and says, ‘Hang on … you don’t even host this anymore!’ to which I sheepishly reply, ‘sorry, it was worth a shot,’ and then walk off while Sam Armytage takes her rightful place and commences the whispering,” Gunsberg joked to news.com.au.
“That, and if you can get Warner Bros. IP lawyers over the line,” he added.
