It was a big day of men’s singles action at the 2026 Australian Open, with some intriguing results setting up tantalising prospects in the knockout rounds.
Dual Commonwealth Games Gold medallist Aaron Wilson survived an almighty scare after losing his first sectional game against Capalaba’s Tim Hale.
However, he was able to regroup and still qualify for the knockout stages.
At Musgrave Hill, 2015 Australian Open Men’s singles champion Aaron Teys continued his good form to make it to the knockouts.
Teys’ fellow Jackaroos in Nathan Black and Ben Twist also enjoyed prosperous days to progress through their sections.
2024 Men’s Singles runner-up Cohen Litfin booked his place in the knockouts as he looks to go one better and claim the title.
New Zealand representatives Ali Forsyth, Keanu Darby, Shannon McIlroy and Aiden Takarua all finished on top of their section, while World Bowls Champion Adam Mckeown from Ireland also qualified.
2019 Pairs champion and 2024 Fours champion Ray Pearse was sublime in his section to go through undefeated, while former Jackaroo Matthew Lucas had a decisive day to qualify for the next round.
Para-Jackaroo Chris Flavel navigated his way through his section, while rising Tasmania star Codi Marshall had a dominant day to advance.
2023 Fours finalist Scott De Jongh and 2024 Over 60s Pairs champion Terry Warder also both finished on top of their section.
The first bagel of the tournament was recorded, with ACT young gun Logan Waters securing a 21-0 victory over Tasmania’s Ross Taylor to advance through to the next round.
Other notable qualifiers were Brad Pavey, Hayden Oster, Brendan Wilson, Kepler Wessels, Mitch Sidebottom, Tyson Wilson, Cameron Keenan, Corey Hicks, Lee Greening and Malaysia’s Amirul Danial Abdul Rahim.
