We’re moving along to Sunday, and per usual, it’s mostly day games as series conclude. We like one YRFI and two NRFIs to cash.

The St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds close out a three-game set that has been wild and offense-driven. We like the YRFI there, and we like NRFIs from the New York Mets vs. San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners vs. Detroit Tigers matchups.

It is hot and humid in St. Louis, and the ball is starting to fly out of the park. We’ve had double-digit combined run totals in both games this weekend. We had 13 runs between the teams Friday and 11 on Saturday with three balls flying out of the park. Reds RHP Rhett Lowder is living up to his name by allowing a lot of hard contact in the first. Opponents are hitting .342 off of him in the first, and he has a 9.00 ERA in the frame through eight starts. Cards RHP Michael McGreevy still has a 2.98 ERA on the season, but he has hit a bit of a wall lately with a 6.00 ERA in his last three starts.

New York Mets at San Diego Padres NRFI (-120)

LHP Sean Manaea makes his first start of the season after pitching out of the pen thus far. He had a five-inning outing June 1, so he’s stretched out to take some bulk innings. Despite a 5.08 ERA, he hasn’t allowed a run in just 1 2/3 IP in the first this season. He has pitched to a 2.31 ERA in his last three outings. On the other side, RHP Randy Vasquez is amidst a breakout season at 5-3 with a 3.31 ERA. He has a 3.00 ERA and 13 K’s in 12 first frames this season.

Seattle Mariners at Detroit Tigers NRFI (-130)

This one cashed Saturday, and I like the NRFI again Sunday, despite some high ERAs from the projected starters. Mariners RHP Luis Castillo sits at 2-5 with a 5.53 ERA. He has been good in the first with opponents hitting just .143 off of him with a 3.60 ERA in 10 starts. RHP Jack Flaherty is having a disastrous year at 1-7 with a 5.31 ERA. He’s coming off his best start of the season, though, with five shutout frames and six K’s. It was his first outing not allowing a run all season. His first-inning ERA sits at 4.85, but he hasn’t allowed a run during the opening frame in three straight turns.

What Does NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?

The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, a run will be scored in the first inning. It doesn’t matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
