EX-AFL RUCKMAN IN ALLEGED CONFRONTATION

Former AFL player and current Williamstown ruckman Braydon Preuss was reportedly at the centre of a stoush with a rival official at a pub last weekend, following the clubs’ VFL clash.

According to the Herald Sun, Preuss and Port Melbourne board member Toby Pinwill had a physical confrontation at the North Port Hotel after the Seagulls-Borough fixture on Sunday.

Williamstown players allege Pinwill, a former Port Melbourne player and current director of football, headbutted Preuss when the pair came face-to-face in the altercation.

Per the report, Pinwill told Borough officials that he “felt threatened” by Preuss, and “only pushed him away”.

Seagulls players were present at the post-match get-together with officials and family members, as is standard after away fixtures, with Willy CEO Paul Northey telling the Herald Sun that a number of them were “confronted with some aggressive behaviour by some patrons”.

It’s believed Pinwill directed choice remarks to recent Seagulls recruit Lachie Wilson, who signed with Port Melbourne prior to the start of this season before leaving a short time later without playing a game.

“In no way did our people instigate or were the aggressors in the incident. With the help of hotel management, the situation was quickly resolved, and those patrons were asked to leave the venue,” Northey told the Herald Sun.

Preuss was most recently AFL-listed in 2022 with the Giants, tallying 28 games across an injury-riddled near-decade-long career. He arrived at North Melbourne in 2014 as a rookie draftee.

The Round 11 clash with Port Melbourne – which saw the Borough prevail by one point in a nailbiter – was Preuss’ fifth game of the season, recording 11 disposals and 33 hitouts.

DEES WEIGH UP ALICE SPRINGS FUTURE

In the wake of discourse over the Demons’ recent playing history in Alice Springs, a report has emerged stating the club is considering not renewing its contract with the Northern Territory.

The Dees have lost their past four games at TIO Traeger Park in Alice Springs, headlined by their Round 12 defeat at the hands of the Giants.

Melbourne’s contract with the state ends this year, and after the loss to GWS, King said regarding playing in the NT: “Selfishly, for me as a senior coach, I’d love to play every game at the MCG. That’s our home.

“But I completely understand the club’s position, and our responsibility to grow the game … I’m not sure how long the contract is; that’s not part of my role.”

On Tuesday night, Seven’s Caroline Wilson reported that King’s voice “is one of many now that is going to see an end to that deal with the Northern Territory and the Melbourne Football Club”, with the game reportedly worth $1 million to the Dees.

“Melbourne is currently weighing up its options. Can they afford to next year forego $1 million? Well, it won’t (quite) be $1 million, because they will get some money from the game in Melbourne.

“The Melbourne board, I’m told, now is feeling more and more aggrieved … the contract is up, the board is going to speak with the footy department in the next week.”
