Update [Tue 9th Jun 2026, 9:08am]:
Here’s a follow-up from the X conversation shared down below:
A lot has changed since Asha came into role 107 days ago. We are moving fast and itβs frankly pretty energizing inside the hallways here. I was made aware of these exclusives roughly a month in advance. Hope that helps!β Aaron Greenberg (@aarongreenberg) June 8, 2026
Original Story: One of the big announcements of the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 was that Gears of War: E-Day would be an Xbox console exclusive, so imagine our surprise when a new trailer popped up today with a PS5 logo next to the game!
Yes, as part of the latest Official Xbox Podcast episode, a trailer for Gears of War: E-Day with a mention of PS5 was included in the broadcast. It’s since been taken down, but loads of people have been highlighting it on social media.
Xbox’s VP of Games Marketing (Aaron Greenberg) has since responded to this, denying that it was a last minute decision to switch Gears to an Xbox console exclusive, as you can see in the tweet below:
Hey Tom, I can confirm this is not true. We just limited the knowledge of this news to a very small internal group. Intention was to share this news first with our players and everyone watching showcase.β Aaron Greenberg (@aarongreenberg) June 8, 2026
As we’ve already covered elsewhere on Pure Xbox, Xbox’s Chief Strategy Officer mentioned in an interview earlier today that it was a calculated decision to announce two specific Xbox console exclusives at the showcase, although he didn’t clarify when that decision was first made internally.
Are we talking weeks? Months? Perhaps we’ll get more clarification in the future, but it’s clear to see that Gears of War: E-Day was at least planned for PS5 at some point in the past, but obviously no longer is. This trailer isn’t the only evidence of that, either β the game was listed for PS5 by PEGI prior to Sunday’s announcement as well.
