Saving Kids Charity Fight Night
Boxing Hall of Famer Roy Jones Jr. will host the RJJ Saving the Kids Charity Fight Night on Friday at Legends Casino Hotel in Toppenish. The event aims to raise awareness and funds to support at-risk youth and efforts to combat child trafficking.
The professional boxing card features fighters including Maricela Cornejo and Natasha Spence. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the first bout scheduled for 7.
Proceeds will benefit programs focused on health care, nutrition, education, mentorship and family services for vulnerable children. The event also will be streamed live on 1EZLIFE Pay Per View through Roku, Firestick, Apple TV and other platforms.
The boxing event is all ages and tickets can be purchased in advance at legendscasino.com or the Legends Gift Shop. Prices are $40, $50 and $60.
Book signing
Author Rob Phillips, local outdoor writer and former Yakima Herald-Republic columnist, is releasing “Missing in the Cascades,” the 10th novel in his Luke McCain outdoor mystery series. The series follows McCain, a Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife enforcement officer, and his yellow Labrador retriever Jack.
In “Missing in the Cascades,” a teen pop star disappears on the Pacific Crest Trail just as her latest song tops the charts. When a young fan searching for her also vanishes, wildlife officer McCain is drawn into a high-stakes search in Washington’s Cascade wilderness.
Phillips will be signing his new book and others in the series from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Inklings Bookshop, 5629 Summitview Ave., and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Hometown Ace Hardware, 401 S. 40th Ave.
Our America Celebrates 250 Years at Franklin Park
Step back into the nation’s founding era during Our America Celebrates 250 Years, a free event from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Franklin Park, 2101 Tieton Drive.
The celebration marks the approaching 250th anniversary of the United States with Revolutionary War re-enactors, living-history demonstrations and family-friendly activities.
Visitors can explore a Revolutionary War encampment, watch demonstrations of colonial-era skills such as spinning, candle making and basket weaving, and meet historical interpreters portraying George Washington and John Hancock.
The event also includes genealogy research opportunities, historic flag displays and exhibits highlighting life, politics and daily challenges in early America.

The Yakima Valley Swap Meet and Car Show is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Central Washington Agricultural Museum, 4508 Main St., Union Gap.
The event will feature a car show, antiques and collectibles, new and used cars and parts, and food vendors.

Eastern Washington Brewfest
Iron Horse Brewery, 1621 Vantage Highway, Ellensburg, is hosting a summer brewfest featuring breweries east of the Cascades from 2-6 p.m. Saturday.
The all-ages event will feature live music from Nate & Alyssa and Forest Ray and food available for purchase.
This year’s brewfest introduces beer agility games. Competitors will take on challenges with a mix of skill, speed and inspiring endurance.
A range of 509-specific options on tap will include craft beer, cider and non-alcoholic selections.

Sprint boat racing
American Sprint Boat Racing returns to Yakima this weekend at State Fair Park, 1301 S. Fair Ave. Qualification races start at 10 a.m. Saturday, and elimination rounds and finals start at 10 a.m. Sunday.
A free sprint boat show and shine is open to the public from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday in the main parking lot at the Valley Mall, 2529 Main St. Union Gap. Visitors can see boats up close and meet racers to ask questions and take photos.
Sprint boats are 12-14 feet in length that race at speeds of 60—80 mph. They navigate 20-foot-wide, 3-foot-deep channels that twist through islands. A 70-foot buffer keeps spectators safely distanced from the action.
One day passes cost $47.50 for adults (13-64 years); $43 for seniors (65 and older); and $31.75 for youth (6-12 years); children five and younger are free. Two day passes cost $81 for adults, $76.50 for seniors and $54 for youth.
A special $30 general admission ticket sale will be available only at the show and shine Friday.
Advance tickets are available at www.statefairpark.org and the State Fair Park box office from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
