South Africa will look to make it two Rugby Championship titles in a row as they open their TRC campaign against Australia Wallabies on August 16 at Ellis Park.

In spite of the absolute dominance that the Boks have exhibited in rugby union the last few years, it’s easy to forget that the New Zealand All Blacks have dominated most of the past decade. The All Blacks have won six TRC titles since 2015, while the Springboks have won two titles.

Wallabies are the only other team to win in the last 10 years. They last won the Rugby Championship in 2015.

Which brings us to 2025, and the opening match of the competition between SA and the Wallabies. South Africa is certainly favored, but there are no free wins in Southern Hemisphere rugby.

Prediction: Can Joe Schmidt’s Wallabies Pull Off A Shock At Ellis Park?

“Although the Wallabies showed significant improvement… they were facing a side that had switched off mentally. Facing a Springbok side who are hunting history… they’ll be facing an altogether different challenge.” – Philip Bendon

Springboks Lineup Confirmed For Saturday’s Test At Ellis Park

“Chasing history as the first Springbok team to win back-to-back Rugby Championships, Rassie Erasmus has named a strong team to face Joe Schmidt’s team. Naming 18 Rugby World Cup winners in his matchday-23, Erasmus has backed experience…” – Philip Bendon

— Wallabies (@wallabies) August 16, 2025Rassie Erasmus Names Veteran Side With Hint Of Experimentation

“Chasing history as the first Springbok team to win back-to-back Rugby Championships, Rassie Erasmus has named a strong team… Erasmus noted the squad reflects ongoing experimentation but is confident in its readiness for Australia.” – Philip Bendon

Are The Springboks Undercooked Ahead Of Their Title Defense?

“Against a second-string Azzurri, the Boks at times looked pedestrian as they struggled to put them away in the first test… This has led to questions as to whether the Boks are undercooked coming into The Rugby Championship, a narrative they will be keen to dispel on Saturday.” – Philip Bendon
