Allegra Spender balked.
Following much debate over whether the independent MP for Wentworth should back or vote against Labor’s tax reforms (with a Labor majority in the House, the crossbench didn’t have the power to actually block them), Spender last week voted with the Coalition and One Nation against the omnibus bill, citing threats to “innovation” and a lack of substantial income tax cuts.
So too did Zali Steggall, Sophie Scamps, Nicolette Boele and Kate Chaney (plus Andrew Gee, Rebekha Sharkie, Dai Le and Bob Katter for that matter), leaving just Monique Ryan, Helen Haines, Andrew Wilkie, and Greens MP Elizabeth Watson-Brown backing Labor’s bill.
