An Australia Post worker has garnered the support of his local neighbourhood after a sweet moment shared with a dog was captured on camera by a resident.
The Queensland postie, identified as Mark, was seen approaching a home in Bundaberg in his company-issued vehicle before greeting a dog in the front yard.
Mark told Yahoo News this week he pats “all the dogs in the area” during his mail run.
“I am an ex-tiger trainer who loves all dogs,” he said.
A home security camera captured Mark jumping off his bike to greet a dog with a scratch and a friendly pat.
The dog returns the welcome with a sloppy and affectionate lick. The pair seemed familiar with one another.

According to the resident, “this fella enjoys a pat every time he comes past”. He shared the footage on Facebook with the hope of identifying the postie for a “friendly” chat.
It wasn’t long before Mark was recognised by others who said he’s a “top bloke”. It seems he’s a friendly face around the area — and the “best postie ever”.

Other residents were touched by the sweet encounter.
“Omg that’s so good! He’s so happy to see the postman, too,” someone responded.
“So glad you have someone genuine delivering your mail,” said another.

It’s a pleasant contrast to incidents relating to dog bites and dog attacks on delivery drivers.
In the last six months of 2025, more than 1,190 dog-related incidents took place. On average, there are nine attacks on posties per day across the country.
Are Australia Post workers allowed to pat dogs?
In a statement to Yahoo, an Australia Post spokesperson agreed posties are “a familiar and trusted presence in communities across Australia”.

But said approaching dogs is actually against their protocols, which are in place to “protect our posties, customers and their pets.”
“Our posties are required to follow clear safety guidelines when approaching properties with dogs,” a spokesperson said.
“While our posties are a familiar and trusted presence in communities across Australia, and many develop positive relationships with animals along their route, these guidelines are in place to keep everyone safe.”
