Former top-15 pick of the Boston Bruins, Jakub Zboril, is staying away from the NHL after getting no offers and signed overseas with HC Vitkovice in Czechia.
Only one of those selections, Jake DeBrusk, became a true NHL regular. Don Sweeney’s first pick as GM was defenseman Jakub Zboril at No. 13, followed by Jake DeBrusk and winger Zach Senyshyn.
DeBrusk Left Boston for the Vancouver Canucks Last Summer
DeBrusk turned into a productive Bruin, but he left last summer in free agency to join the Vancouver Canucks. Jakub Zboril and Zach Senyshyn, meanwhile, never established themselves at the NHL level.
Zboril spent most of his Boston years in the AHL with Providence and suited up for just 76 NHL games in four seasons. He was dealt to Columbus at the 2024 trade deadline in the transaction that landed Andrew Peeke in Boston.
The Blue Jackets let him walk following the season, and Zboril signed a PTO with the New Jersey Devils. When that didn’t pan out, he went overseas to HC Dynamo Pardubice of the Czech Extraliga, notching two goals and 16 points in 30 games.
The two parties went their separate ways after the season. Now 28, Zboril will stay in the Czech Extraliga on a signing with HC Vitkovice for 2025-26.
Senyshyn, on the other hand, asked Boston for a trade years ago and has been bouncing around without finding a consistent NHL spot.
For the Bruins, the 2015 draft is one of the all-time great what-ifs. A decade later, only DeBrusk carved out a career in Boston, with Zboril and Senyshyn are continuing to find their grooves elsewhere.
