The Elite women’s XCO started a muddy day in Austria with riders facing one of the hilliest courses on the tour. While the rain did stop and the sun came out, the track was muddy after a long week of rain. The steep descents became increasingly technical as the race wore on. Mud tires were everywhere.

Unfortunately, one of those riders was Canada’s Jenn Jackson.

Jackson had a strong ride going. She climbed as high as sixth and sat ninth heading into the final lap. Then she crashed and was unable to finish.  It was a tough end. Hopefully she’s OK and ready to race again in Lenzerheide.

With Jackson out, Emilly Johnston ended up as the top Canadian finisher in 41st.

Rissveds does Rissveds things

Once again, Jenny Rissveds reminded everyone what happens when she gets out front. She slowly gradually distanced herself from the field before leaving them completely behind. There were moments on the last lap when she was 1:15 ahead of second place.

Rissveds ended up crossing the line 56 seconds ahead of Puck Pieterse. This was Rissveds’ eighth World Cup victory win. The result puts her in the overall lead for the season.

Pieterse finished second after another strong performance while Samara Maxwell rounded out the podium in third.

Blunk battles back

Savilia Blunk put on an incredible show. The American tangled with Rissveds in one of the opening corners and crashed heavily. Rissveds managed to escape the crash and went on to win. Blunk found herself dead last.

Blunk slowly made her way through the pack, and finished fifth on the day. No small feat.

Survivors’ race

The conditions caught out plenty of favourites.

Sina Frei crashed multiple times throughout the race. She eventually chose to pull over for a tire change. Even with all those crashes she manage to get an impressive ninth place.

Mona Mitterwallner quietly rode her hardtail to 10th.
